Hoi An

Hoi An is a city renowned for its charm and cultural treasures. Once famous for its affordable tailored suits and dresses, this reputation has waned in recent years due to rising prices and declining quality. Meanwhile, cities like Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi have emerged as strong competitors in the tailoring scene.

Beyond tailoring, Hoi An captivates visitors with its enchanting lantern festivals and vibrant Night Market. But there’s more to this city than meets the eye. From its distinctive architecture and traditional pottery village to scenic cycling routes, lively nightlife, and serene beaches, Hoi An offers a diverse array of experiences.

Of course, with so much to explore, Hoi An also attracts lots of tourists, making it a bustling yet unforgettable destination.

The Night Market

The Night Market along the Thu Bon River blends romantic charm with vibrant energy. Lanterns illuminate the streets, creating a magical atmosphere, while beautifully decorated restaurants offer a mix of local and international flavors. However, the nightlife was surprisingly loud, with booming music that disrupts the otherwise romantic and serene ambiance – especially for those who prefer a quieter experience. Although unexpected, we still enjoyed the combination.

The vibrancy of Hoi An isn’t limited to its nightlife. During the day, the streets are crowded with tourists eager to discover quality products at prices that are considered affordable by Western standards. Admittedly, so did we.

Further Impressions

The beautifully decorated restaurants offering local flavors offered a fantastic way to take a break from the sightseeing activities.

Spending the time riding through Hoi An and enjoying some delicious egg coffee was a wonderful experience.

A coffee-making class at Phin Coffee Restaurant added a special touch to our experience and we’re proud to say, we can now whip up a delicious egg coffee ourselves – a newfound passion we can’t wait to share.

Some take aways from the coffee class:

  • Vietnamese used to roast their coffee beans in pork fat, fish sauce or salt.
  • The classic egg coffee is made with egg yolks, sugar, honey, condensed milk and sometimes a small amount of rice wine.
  • Phin’s egg coffee consists of egg yolks, sugar and coconut sirup apart from the espresso.
